Kikuyu council of elders in Njoro Sub County have refuted claims that there are some communities fleeing the area ahead of the August 8th polls.
Speaking in Njoro on Monday, the elders led by their chairman Maina Munjuga said that the rumors were a made-up story by a few individuals who are out to create fear among members of the public.
“Those are rumors being peddled by a few individuals. As elders we have been engaging elders from all communities in the area in a bid to preach peace and peaceful co-existence” he said.
While calling on residents of Njoro to turn out in large number to vote on the 8th of August, the elders endorsed jubilee nominee Charity Kathambi Chepkwony for the post of Njoro parliamentary seat.
At the same time, they denounced a section of people who claim to have endorsed a particular independent candidate on behalf of the Kikuyu community in the area.
It will be noted that Kathambi trounced incumbent Joseph Kiuna during Jubilee nominations.
Munjuga added that Njoro people nominated Kathambi without looking at the tribal affiliation and that the voting pattern in the constituency has now gone beyond tribal lines.
On his part, John Kamau called on Kenyans across the board to continue praying for peace.
