The Kikuyu Council of Elders in Uasin Gishu county have praised Governor Jackson Mandago for his efforts in preaching peace, cohesion, and unity among the locals in the largely cosmopolitan region.

The council's spokesman Mzee Kamuni wa Kabari has further pledged to work closely with the county government and elders from other communities in the county as well as peace actors in the county.

Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Mzee Kamuni hailed governor Mandago for keeping his promise of preaching peace before, during and after the August 8 polls and the October 26 repeat presidential election.

"We are glad that our governor kept his promise of putting the county's peace before anything else especially during the tightly contested gubernatorial race," Kamuni said.

"This is a cosmopolitan county and even with the current political happenings we as Kikuyu elders pledge to closely work together with other communities to ensure we continue living together as brothers and sisters," he added.

Mzee Kamuni further asked Kenyans across the country not to be divided along political lines and instead work together for the benefit of the country's development.
