Residents of Kikuyu are crying foul after accusing a landlord in the area for disposing raw sewage to flow along with the floods that were experienced in the area. Jonathan King’oo a tenant in the plot said that the latrines were full and needed an exhauster. He added that during the heavy down pour the landlord came with two young men who appeared to have been paid to dispose the waste to pour out flowing with the floods. The tenant revealed that it was not the only illegal thing that the landlord was performing but also said that at times when the latrines are full, he goes on to hire few drunkard fellows who work in the night to carry the waste to various water streams in the area. He explained that the landlord does this to avoid spending his money and hence seeks cheaper means to carry out the exercise. A resident in the area Beatrice Kamau expressed her anger saying that the waste was dangerous for human health and it was risking lives of many children in the area. ‘Considering the fact that such floods were flowing in our houses, it really shows that we are at a great risk of contaminating diseases,’ said the resident. She added that they reported the matter to the public health office where they expect action to be taken against the accused landlord. Speaking in her office, the deputy public health officer Alice Kinuthia said that residents had come to the office to report the matter. She explained that immediate action was taken to arrest the accused person. ‘Our efforts to arrest the landlord were futile after he escaped on realising that the matter was reported to us, but that’s not it, we are working closely with the police to arrest him and he will face the law accordingly,’ said the Public health officer. She however  sends a warning to anyone in the area who has the tendency related to this to stop it as it can land them in serious trouble.
