Emerging details are revealing behind the scenes activities that took place before President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political rival Raila Odinga went public and announced a new chapter in Kenya's political arena.
Apart from a steady delegation of emissaries sent to the Odinga family, calls made to Ida Odinga to soften her husband’s heart as well as Kenyatta-Odinga family friends playing a role to reconcile the two top leaders, elders were also called in to help truce peace.
According to an MP privy to details of the plot, the Kikuyu council of elders met the Luo council of elders at an undisclosed venue and discussed the importance of brokering peace between the two communities.
Uhuru is said to have been worried that he was leaving his community ‘cornered’ because of the highly divisive 2017 poll.
“The president is concerned on where he will leave the Kikuyu community. He wants to ensure it is at peace with all communities, and that is why the Kikuyu-Luo council of elders were called in,” the Jubilee MP said.
