Confirming the incident on Wednesday, Kikuyu OCS Senior Inspector Joshua Arende said that the man is said to have started complaining of severe pains in his abdomen after consuming a local brew locally known as ‘chang’aa’ in a den in King’ero village. The OCS explained that the local brew which is illegal is said to have affected the man after he drunk it.

He added that efforts to arrest the owner of the den were futile after she and her employees escaped from the scene.

“Illicit brew is a menace in our country and we are fighting to end it. These are not standardised brews and they are harmful to your health,” said Arende. The OCS added that those who will be arrested in these dens will be dealt with accordingly.

Arende added that the search for the owner of the den is still on and the police will not relent in their fight against the illegal brew.

A medical doctor in Kikuyu Hospital Dr Charles Anyanda, said that the patient is responding well to treatment and the man is lucky to be alive as the brew might have caused him his life if the case had not been responded to urgently.
