Commuters in Kikuyu have hailed the County matatu Sacco for initiating a system in which passengers who loose their luggage can recover them. The chairman of one of the Saccos in the area, James Mugo while speaking at the Kikuyu bus terminus said that the move was started following numerous complaints from the passengers.
He said most of the passengers could not identify the particular motor vehicle they had boarded. The chairman added that a notice board was established at the bus terminus which would enable passengers regain their documents and other belongings for they were being displayed on the notice board.
He added that for luggage, a notice will be written and would direct them to the office where they could regain their goods. “Ever since we initiated this system we have received numerous praises from commuters in the area since they are able to get their goods easily if they get lost. All this is to bring sanity to the matatu business,” said the Mugo. The chairman added that Sacco managements are working to ensure the industry is not associated with negativity as it used to be in the past.
He revealed that any matatu identified to have an item that was lost and it was not brought to the management office, they risk being thrown out of the Sacco for indiscipline. Pryvane Shabaya a resident in the area while commenting on the effectiveness of the initiative said that it had brought sanity and order to the matatu business in the area.
He added that Saccos have really played a major role in the discipline witnessed by commuters. Shabaya however hailed the Sacco management for being considerate to commuters saying that they can reach the management by the contact displayed inside the matatus. Angela Andiba a regular commuter of the matatus hailed the Sacco for bringing in such an initiative.
“When I lost my purse I did not know how I could get it back, it had my ID and other important documents. However the following day as I was at the terminus I saw the notice board written 'lost items' that is where I followed up and I recovered my items,” explained the resident.
