Kikuyu MCA Binary Wainaina has donated shoes to 980 primary school children at Nduramu Primary School in Kikuyu.

The school which comprises of children from humble backgrounds has had challenges where children have no shoes. The school’s administration raised concerns over increased absenteeism of children as a result of not having shoes.

Wainaina on Monday visited the school after he heard of the challenge and gifted the children with a pair of shoes each.

“During our time back in the 70s and 80s that’s in the rural areas that’s when not having shoes in school was nothing to worry. But at such a time it’s not appropriate to see that,” said Wainaina.

He revealed that such cases can also cause a poor performance in school because these children are not comfortable compared to other children in better schools.

Wainaina said that such cases hinder education today and he called on area residents, women groups and corporates to consider helping such schools for effective learning. He said that this was not the only school with this challenge and he vowed to visit other schools this week and do the same.

“I also want to call on the Kenya National examination Council (KNEC) to be lenient in terms of marking when it comes to such schools because there is a lot they face. Such schools should not be compared to good private academies in terms of results.”
