Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has rubbished claims that Opposition Leader Raila Odinga is gaining political fame in Mt kenya region by meeting politicians from the area.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament buildings in Nairobi on Friday, the Jubilee MP said that Raila’s meeting with Mt Kenya top politicians means nothing.
According to the MP, Raila’s meetings are friendly and will not have impact on how the region will vote in 2022.
“What we know is that Raila Odinga is reaching out to politician's and leaders in efforts to unite and reconcile the country and nothing else,” he said.
The vocal Jubilee legislator said that Mt Kenya will not be compromised because of Raila’s handshakes.
He criticized politician' and political analysts linking Raila’s handshakes to 2022 sucession politics.
“Our resolve as Mt Kenya is to support Deputy President William Ruto in 2022 and no one can change that,” he said.
Ichung’wa asked Raila to continue with his handshakes and help the jubilee government unite the country.
Raila’s handshakes with top politician's especially from Mt Kenya has been perceived as a plot to block DP Ruto’s 2022 bid.
On Friday, Raila met with former president Mwai Kibaki and discussed matters national unity.
Last week, the former Prime Minister met with retired President Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarak home.
Before meeting Moi, Raila met former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
