The raids were conducted on shops selling second-hand items and pawn dens at the Zambezi area after increased cases of burglary and police recovered majorly electronics, gas cylinders and furniture.

Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD SSP Mutune Maweu said that there had been increased cases of burglary in the region estimating about 5 cases reported in a week, further adding that the criminals had been boosted by second-hand dealers and pawn shops that buy stolen items at cheaper prices.

‘’We have recovered households worth around Sh700 000 in 7 different shops in Zambezi and arrested 6 suspects in connection to these,’’ said Mr Maweu.

He applauded members of the public in the area for their continued support in working closely with the police to fight crime, revealing that the raids came as a result of a tip-off from them.

The police boss also warned all those promoting the crime through provision of ready market for stolen goods, saying that they would also be brought to book when found.

‘’I also want to warn those criminals who have formed gangs to break into homes that their days are numbered. Those dealers who also buy stolen items are in risk of being arrested if they are found to be encouraging these crime,’’ said Maweu.

Some of the recovered items have already been claimed by members of the public and police are working on a further verification and return process.
