Kiambu County Police Commander James Mugera led in the official opening of new police residential units at the Kikuyu Police Station on Moday.
Mugera said the units were a good motivation for the police officers who were living in less conducive environments of circular metal houses.
“These new units are a step in the right direction for the police who have dwelled in very deplorable conditions before,” he said.
The new police units are constructed as flat units on three floors, where every house has an abolition block, kitchen, bedroom and sitting area.
Also present during the function were area police boss, OCPD Mutune Maweo and OCS Joshua Arende.
The construction of the houses began back when the Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua was Administration police (AP) Commandant in the country.
It took such a long time for the houses to be officially opened for the police officers to live in.
The delay was attributed to water connection into the houses. Lack of resources in the country has been cited as a reason why police reforms were not taking off as planned.
Better living quarters is part of the police reforms in the country, aimed at empowering the police officers in their work as they feel their role is appreciated through provision of resources to improve their lives.
The function was attended by members of the community policing committees in the area and members of the public.
