Residents of Ihururu village in Kikuyu had something to smile about after Presbyterian Church of East Africa Kiambu Parish conducted free medical care for them.
Speaking at the church's premises at Kikuyu, Kiambu County, Dr. John Mwangi a doctor attached to Ihururu PECA Hospital, said that the church has responsibility to help those underprivileged.
“The church, apart from offering spiritual content has a duty to help the less fortunate members of society,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi said that the church would continue working with the two levels of governments in improving healthcare for residents.
He noted that many residents are living below poverty line which makes it difficult for them to access affordable health services, and noted that there is need for the church to consolidate its efforts in alleviating the suffering of such people.
During the free medical exercise over 600 patients turned up and they were treated for various ailments including diabetics, hypertension and communicable diseases.
Mwangi urged the residents to go for early screening to avoid late complications.
“The residents should form a habit of going to visit a doctor early to prevent later complications,” he said.
Mwangi, however urged the national government to step up its effort in the fight against cancer that claims over 27,000 deaths annually.
