Kikuyu residents; 18 grownups and five children have this morning been hospitalized in Kikuyu town after consuming untested milk.
Speaking to this writer, one of those admitted in hospital said that they consumed milk after buying it at a vendor in Kikuyu town.
“I bought the milk and after we took the tea, my two sons who I was preparing to go to school started complaining of stomach pains. Then I also started feeling the pain," said the resident.
Speaking in his office, Dr. Francis King'oo, a medical doctor confirmed that the patients drunk contaminated milk, and noted that they will be treated and discharged.
"However I want to call on residents to be very cautious and avoid buying milk or food stuffs on the streets as it can cause health issues because of the dirty environment the food staffs are being sold at," said King'oo.
Kiambu Kenya Board official Diana Ng'oche, who spoke to this writer on phone, said that traders and hawkers selling such milk risk prosecution.
She said there would be increased surveillance on milk trading routes, noting that the board officials would be testing the milk to ensure it’s healthy.
"I warn those traders who put money first and risk the lives of people that the law will catch up with them. I urge traders to form groups and mobilize funds to buy equipment that will pasteurize ther milk," said Ng'oche
