A Kikuyu eye specialist has advised area residents to attend free eye check ups in a bid to avert eye diseases and ailments.
Speaking from her office on Wednesday, Dr Rosa Loisa a specialist in Eye and Retina Care at the Kikuyu Hospital Eye Unit said that they are committed to restoring sight and preventing blindness among the residents especially the less fortunate.
Dr Loisa noted that loss of eye sight has a tremendous effect on the economic and social development of a society.
She further revealed that families may breakup due to some of its members falling victim hence the need to seek medical assistance in case of any complication.
She emphasised that eye problems should never be ignored because they could easily cause partial or permanent blindness.
The officer noted that poverty and hunger are the major problems facing most developing countries and loss of eye sight could easily deteriorate and worsen the condition.
She however cautioned residents against poor lifestyles like lack of exercises and poor eating habits because stating they cause diseases such as high blood sugar or kidney failure.
She reckoned that some diseases related to the eye may be as a result of old age while others may be inherited from family members.
She lamented on how people shy away from visiting the facility but instead buy medicine from the chemists and glasses from the vendors in the street.
She further urged residents to maintain proper and hygiene because most ailments may be caused by dirt and foreign objects in the eye.
