Speaking during a meeting with taxi owners at Kikuyu town on Sunday, the taxi operators chairman in the area, Mwangi Kinyanjui called on the police to intensify patrols so as to enable them to operate without fear.

He added that the government should install flood lights in all dark alleys which will act as a deterrent to the carjackers.

The meeting was meant to discuss insecurity issues ailing the taxi operators as they have recently been targeted by thugs.

Kinyanjui said the means of transportation has become common because the public consider taxis the safest means of travelling.

The chairman complained that thugs were tainting the good image of the taxi operators as customers are now shunning taxis on suspicion that the drivers were working in cohorts with the thugs.

Kinyanjui urged the authorities to beef up security in the area in order for both clients and operators to feel safe.

He advised the taxi operators to take precautionary measures by avoiding areas that are notorious for insecurity.

Kikuyu sub-county OCPD, Mutune Maweu said that the transport industry has a lot of challenges and bodaboda operators were facing the same issue.

He said that security in kikuyu had tremendously improved but promised that his officers would intensify their patrols.

Maweu said that the police will work tirelessly to curb insecurity in the area and urged residents to work hand in hand with the police by giving information on areas that thugs tend to attack so that they can take action.
