Kikuyu Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) chair lady Rehab Kehubu, has challenged women in the area to apply for Uwezo Fund and government tenders.
Addressing women during an empowerment seminar in Kikuyu town on Wednesday, the chair lady said that through Uwezo Funds, area women will be empowered socially and economically.
The MYWO leader urged women to grab the opportunities being provided by the government saying that they will transform their lives.
She added that several women in neighbouring sub-counties have already benefited and are doing well.
“The government has given women opportunities to progress through Uwezo Fund and we should take the opportunities and work towards empowering ourselves,” she said.
The chair lady observed that Kikuyu women can help transform the county if they apply for government funds and also attend empowerment programmes being organised by various stakeholders.
At the same time, the Kikuyu MYWO chair challenged the Kiambu County government to involve women in development and leadership.
She accused the county of sidelining women from Kikuyu sub-county adding that women in the area are not taking it lightly.
“Governor Kabogo must involve women in leadership and also in development. We as women have a right to be engaged,” she said.
Kehubu further urged women to be steadfast and fight for their rights as provided for in the constitution.
Kehubu said that for development to be realised both genders must be engaged equally in policy making and leadership.
