The County Government of Kilifi sees quality education as the foundation of individual progress and the basis of the County, Governor Amason Kingi has said.
He noted that the County has valued education and given it the priority it rightly deserves by channeling focus on infrastructure development to ensure every child has an opportunity to learn in a conducive environment.
"So far, my administration has constructed over 800 fully equipped ECD classrooms across the County which has greatly reduced the distance that young pupils travel to access quality education," he disclosed on Thursday.
The County now has 36 Vocational Training Centres, enabling over 4000 youth to enroll in various youth polytechnics across the county, undertaking various grades, artisan and craft courses.
Speaking when he joined education stakeholders during the Kilifi North Constituency Education Conference, Kingi indicated that over 1000 students in the pyrotechnics graduate with grades of artisan and craft certificates every year.
He said the introduction of free pre-primary education had also enabled more pupils to enroll in ECD centres.
"The County Scholarship fund has also made it possible for thousands of bright and needy students access bursaries with ease and continue with their education as they strive to fulfill their dreams," he said.
The governor further called on the national government to handle education matters with more aggression.
"The National Assembly should push for motions that will address key issues affecting our education sector like poor school infrastructure and unhealthy teacher-student ratios especially in marginalized areas," said the ODM governor.
"Let us endeavor to create an equal platform for the young to acquire quality knowledge and compete in the global market. No child should be left behind," he added.
The conference was hosted by Kilifi North Member of Parliament Owen Yaa Baya.
