Police officers in Kilifi County are holding a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) over claims of incitement. The MCA, whose identity was not revealed, is said to have incited youth to invade a private land in the county. The MCA was arrested on Tuesday at around 11am alongside five other suspects.Confirming the arrest, Kilifi police chief Alexander Makau told Baraka FM that the suspects were arrested while invading Waiyaki farm in Farasi estate. The police boss said preliminary reports indicate that the matter was politically motivated, and asked politicians not to use criminal gangs to recover public property. Makau further said that the lawmaker would have sought for legal redress over the matter rather than organizing a gang to assist him in recovering the land.“We want people to operate within the law, they should have gone to court and come up with a court order but they are taking the law in their own hands which is not allowed,” said Makau, as quoted by the daily. The MCA will be arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts to answer to charges of incitement and trespassing.
