An official in Kilifi has stepped aside following a case filed against him over an alleged attempt to solicit a Sh200, 000 bribe from a businessman.In a letter seen by the Nation, Mr Matano Riziki, Kilifi County director of Supply Chain Management, said that he has stepped aside on his own volition after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) filed charges against him on March 13, 2015. The official also said that detectives from the anti-graft body raided his office in Kilifi Town over the matter. He further said that he was arrested and taken to their offices in Malindi to question him over the misuse of public office."I would wish to say that I have stepped aside with immediate effect until the matter pending at the Malindi law court is brought to a logical conclusion," read part of the letter directed to chief officer in charge of finance and copies sent to the Head of Public Service and county secretary.Matano was put on the spot when EACC arrested him for allegedly attempting to solicit Sh200, 000 from businessmen, whose identity has not been disclosed, to issue him with a tender.
