Kilifi County has been put on a high alert after cases of Cholera were reported.

Eight people are currently under watch for the deadly disease.

Five of the people under watch are said to have come in contact with a child who died as a result of acute diarrhoea and vomiting on August 14.

They  tested positive of vibrio cholera, a bacterium that causes cholera.

On Wednesday, three cases were reported at the same village.

Kilifi County Director of Health Bilali Mazoya has confirmed the incidents.

Two of the three patients were treated and discharged and the third one was admitted.

 “We have set up a Cholera treatment centre at Kiwandani Dispensary to manage the identified cases and any other subsequent cases from the locality,” he said.

Over the last few months the country has been on a high alert following cases of cholera outbreak with Nairobi and Garissa counties being the most affected.
