The Kilifi County Government has signed an agreement with Better Place International (BPI), a US based organization to establish a hospital at a cost of Sh4 billion.

The multi-million health care facility will be constructed on a 25 acre piece of land at Vipingo ridge starting from July 2017 to September 2018.

Speaking during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) alongside Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, BIP President Dr Yuri Millo said that the main mission of the organization is to provide better as well as sustainable health care in various parts of the Sub Sahara Africa, adding that the hospital will offer affordable services to Coast residents upon completion.

“We will provide medication to the entire coast community and 20per cent of operation will be done for charity work while 80 per cent will be a little payment compared to other hospitals in the region,” he said, as quoted by Baraka FM.

Millo also said that the healthcare facility will be equipped with the necessary machinery to enable the staff offer services that are not found in other hospitals in the county.

“Our facility is special in the sense that we will focus on operations and not chronic diseases that can be treated by the county hospitals. We can do the operations better than any other facility,” he said.

On his part, Kingi said that his government has been committed to ensuring residents benefit from better health care services, adding that he has allocated more than 26 per cent of the county funds towards the health sector.

“My government has been allocating in excess of 26 per cent of its total budget to the health department, reason being we want to improve the infrastructure and ensure no resident of Kilifi misses out on good health care,” said Kingi, as quoted by the daily.

The county boss further thanked the organization for choosing to work with his government to save the lives of Kenyans residing in Kilifi county.

“I am privileged to have this multi billion project in my county as I know it will be of benefit to the people of Kilifi and Coast as whole,” added Kingi.
