Former Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo has said he will defeat incumbent Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

Speaking on Sunday, Kimaiyo defended his time as the IG.

He expressed confidence that he has what it takes to be the next senator.

While presenting his nomination papers to IEBC on Sunday, Kimaiyo dismissed claims that he has little experience in politics.

"I have been in politics for a very long time. I crisscrossed the country with former President (Daniel) Moi and I understand politics better," he said.

"I have also been a member in the national security council, an experience no other leader has," he added.

Kimaiyo said he is ready to work with other county leaders whom he accused Murkomen of alienating.

"I will not dwell on petty politics like talking about individuals. I will begin door-to-door campaigns to humbly request for votes," the ex-police boss said.
