He says that he is proud of his moniker, Wamatangi, as it is the one which propelled him into politics.

“I was given the name by the people I serve. The name represents the kind of work I used to do and still do to ensure that Kenyans have acess to clean water,” he says with a tinge of pride.

It is the name that brought him fame and made him elected as the Kiambu County senator.

He says he has helped many Kenyans even outside Kiambu County stating that he has been able to supply 20,000 tanks since the initiative was started over 10 years ago. He allegedly rode on this generosity after donating over 17,000 water tanks to about 650 women groups in Kiambu County.

By then, he had no political aspiration but after serving the people, he realised that he had the qualities of a leader and decided to venture into politics. His target was mostly the women groups, youth initiatives and communities that have joined together to bring adequate water to their area.

He says: “I was touched by the struggle people were going through, especially women, in search of water. I decided to do something and that is when people started referring to me as Kimani 'Wamatangi' which loosely translates to “Kimani of tanks”.

Wamatangi vied for the Kikuyu Member of Parliaments post in 2007 but lost since his name was not on the ballot papers.

It was in 2013 that he vied for the senatorial seat and won by a landslide.

Wamatangi who has been in the news recently for his strong stand in support of the Jubilee government assures that he will continue serving Kiambu residents and all Kenyans through his water project that has helped many.
