A section of Kiambu town residents have called on the police and the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure that killers of human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, his client and the driver are brought to book.

The residents have been angered by the killing of the young lawyer, his client and the driver.

Speaking on Monday, the locals raised concerns over rising cases where innocent people are being killed in mysterious circumstances.

“The Police and the Office of the DPP should make sure that people involved in the murder lawyer Kimani are brought to book,” said Seth Mburu, a Kiambu based lawyer.

Mburu said that the killing of the human rights lawyer has caused fears in the profession.

Stella Muruiki, a Law student with a local university said that they are concerned on their security.

“In most cases lawyers are targeted by criminals who end up killing them,” she said.

Muruiki asked the government to guarantee security of lawyers.

Peter Macharia, a local at Kiambu town claimed existence of a hit squad in the country. He asked the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to get rid of rogue officers who could be involved in hit squads.

On Sunday Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula called for a public enquiry into the killing of lawyer Kimani and two others.

The leader’s further called for resignation of Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet.

Lawyer Kimani together with his client and a driver went missing two weeks ago after a court session in Mavoko, Machakos county only for their bodies to be discovered dumped in Ol Donyo Sabuk River on Friday.

Their killing has attracted global condemnation.

Meanwhile, three police officers linked to the death of the lawyer, his client and the driver have been detained in police custody for 14 days pending completion of investigations.

The three, Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Chebulet and Sylivia Wanjiku appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo on Monday. The three were however detained for 14 days pending completion of investigations.

The prosecution called for more time to allow for investigations. The three will be brought back to court on July 18.
