Despite the new rules about announcing and ranking of national examination results by the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi of non-ranking, Winangui’s family from Kimende was celebrating their daughter’s good performance.

Parents of Rosemary Wangui sent their daughter’s index number to the number 22252 and were elated when the reply showed that their daughter scored 410 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education 2014 results.

Peter Kamonde, Wangui’s uncle said the fruits of hard work were sweet and it was particularly encouraging to see a girl outshine boys in class work. Wangui, who could not help hide her joy, was a pupil at Kimende primary school.

“Immediately I was informed about my niece’s good performance, I closed my business and rushed to her home to join in the celebrations. I wish my niece all the best in her future ambitions and I know she will be somebody great in Kenya,” said Kamonde.

The Ministry of Education removed the pomp in the announcement of the examination results when they declined to rank the best students and schools as earlier done over the past years since 1985 when KCPE began.

The new rules by the Ministry of not ranking the candidates and schools has attracted mixed reactions from Kenyans with some condemning the move while some support it.
