Speaking at Kimende trading centre over the weekend, the administrator complained that 70 percent of streetlights installed in the sub-county have been vandalised.

He blamed scrap dealers for the mess saying investigations into the vandalism and theft has been launched.

“We have moved to investigate the vandalism crisis and anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.

Kiiru said that the county government has spent a lot of money on installing the lights and other structures, adding that though the county will foot the bills for repairs, residents must be vigilant and report cases of vandalism.

The administrator said that measures including setting up of a team to guard against vandalism would be taken.

Meanwhile, the sub-county official has pleaded with youths in the area to shun crime and participate in development, noting that reports indicate that many young people are joining criminal groups.

“We have reports that many of the youths in Kimende and Limuru are joining criminal groups,” he said.

The sub-county administrator asked the young people to take advantage of government funds and take part in meaningful activities.
