Peter Kimori, a Nairobi based business mogul and a close ally of Governor Evans Kidero, is set to be Kisii Governor James Ongwae’s running mate.

Ongwae, who is seeking re-election, is facing a stiff competition from Jubilee party’s senator Chris Obure and his current deputy Joash Maangi, who also seeks the seat on a Jubilee ticket.

And a source within Ongwae’s cycles intimate that Kimori, a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga and an aspiring Bomachoge-Borabu MP, is set to be named running mate.

“He has settled on Kimori from Bomachoge and he will unveil him soon. I don’t know why he settled on him,” said an MP who sorts anonymity.

The MP, who has ‘stable’ relationship adds: “Honestly I thought he would pick someone from South Mugirango to make the equation easy for him.”

Although Ongwae has remained tight lipped on his preferred running mate however, he has attended a host of events across the county with Kimori.

Interestingly, Obure, who is viewed as a real threat to Ongwae, named Eng. Albert Nyaundi as his running mate also from Bomachoge clan.

Despite the growing opposition, Ongwae is also depending on Senator Janet Ong’era from Bobasi and Ambassador Sam Ongeri from Nyaribari for his re-election.
