Parents of Kimuchu Mixed Day Secondary School in Thika sub-county have protested high damage fees required by the school’s administration.
Speaking at the school on Wednesday, the parents argued that Sh3,800 demanded by the school for each student, is beyond what they expected.
Paul Kamau, a form one student's parent, criticised the school for placing the burden on parents while the school burnt after the students had been sent home following reports of a roaming strike.
"When the school burnt the students had already been sent home. The principal should tell us who burnt the school since there was no student within the compound,"he noted.
"We also want to know what was exactly damaged and the assessors who compiled the details of the damage since we were not involved," demanded another parent.
Ruth Maina, another parent complained that the school's board of management had promised to call the parents for a meeting, a promise it did not honour.
"The BOM chairman had told us he will call us for a meeting to discuss this issue but he did not. Now the principal has refused to re-admit the students unless we pay. We are lost, we don't know what to do," said Maina.
Efforts to reach the school’s administration to comment on the grievances by parents were not successful.
