Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday wrote to speaker Speaker Ekwee Ethuro urging him to recall senators to debate the 2016 Election Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Election Offences Bill.
According to KIthure, the two matters are crucial and urgent and therefore the senate should be convened this week.
“There are urgent matters that need the House to consider as soon as possible. The National Assembly last week passed the Bills and the law requires the concurrence of both Houses,” Kindidiki said
Kindiki also said the sitting will ratify the names of members who will form an 11-member committee to discuss the impeachment of Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
“Also the issue of impeachment of the Nyeri governor is what we will be considering. The county assembly has already notified the Senate Speaker and therefore there are timelines in law that need to be followed,” he said.
Before the National Assembly proceeded on recess on Thursday last week, lawmakers unanimously passed the Bills without amendments and senators are likely to do the same.
