King'eero in Kikuyu sub-county is experiencing a high rate of insecurity which has left residents in fear and the police on their toes.

On July 2, three men armed with a pistol shot Peter Njenga Kang’ethe on the shoulder. Njenga was attacked at his electronics shop and the armed men stole Sh26,000, mobile phones and a laptop.

Police Commander in the area, Misheck Nyago, said the incident was reported by the victim who was later rushed to Tigoni Hospital for treatment and is currently stable.

Three days earlier, a 47-year-old man was murdered on June 30 in Gathiga Village, still in King'eero area. Mary Wambui, a resident said that she heard screams and rushed there only to find the deceased with multiple stab wounds on his chest and stomach.

The victim was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Nyago said that the suspect, 29-year-old George Njenga, was arrested and the weapon recovered. In the same area, a 37-year-old man, Peter Kiarie was murdered on June 17. The incident was reported by one James Kuria Kaba via phone at around 9.43pm at Kibiku Police Post. Kuria said that he heard screams at around 8.25pm and rushed to his neighbour Kiarie whom he found groaning in pain, lying on the ground in his compound.

According to Kikuyu Police Boss Birgen Kiptoo, the deceased was shot by two armed men in the upper abdomen and right thigh. He died while receiving treatment at the Kikuyu Hospital, where he had been rushed.

Kiptoo said that the deceased had previously been attacked and survived.

On June 8, five men were caught stealing at around 4.30am from a house in Kanyonge Village close to the King’eero police station. Kiptoo said that the five men were identified as Nairobi University students from the Lower Kabete Campus’ school of business studies.

He added that they recovered one homemade gun loaded with six rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition and one stone of bhang. These being just a few of the several crimes committed in King’eero Village, Kiptoo has said that they are conducting patrols in Kikuyu, King'eero, Wangige and other areas in Kikuyu sub-county to assure residents of their security. He added that they have made several arrests and recovered bullets and guns.

Kiptoo said that everyone caught drunk and disorderly, stealing, gambling, idling and committing any other crime will be arrested and punished.

He added that so far they have managed to arrest more than 300 suspects, who have already been arraigned in court and given a fair trial.
