Residents of King’ero village, Kikuyu Sub County have embarked on constructing drainage systems in an effort to curb flooding in their houses that has been experienced in the past two days.
Lawrence Gashimu, a resident in the area said that the rains have given them sleepless nights, with water flooding in the houses.
He explained that he came up with the idea and shared it with his fellow neighbours to work on getting a solution during the day to curb the menace.
“Our children, and even us are at risk of dying and contracting other diseases hence we had to mobilize ourselves to find a way out of this crisis,” said the resident.
Beth Wangari, another participant in the activity revealed that waiting for the government was going to take too long, and they had to find a solution immediately.
She explained that such cases do not need the government’s help, as the residents can find solutions before the government can come to the rescue.
She therefore called upon residents to step up and find solutions as they suffer more when faced with floods.
However, she added that landlords should also consider some factors when building, adding that they should consider setting up good drainages.
