Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has accused the Jubilee government of being a stumbling block towards the realisation of devolution.
Speaking at Mwanaminga in Kaloleni, Kingi said that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have been hijacking projects initiated by county governments as they seek re-election rather than implementing the new Constitution. Kingi added that the national government has allegedly been attempting to derail various projects being initiated by governors with the aim of discrediting them as non-performers. The outspoken governor called upon residents of Kilifi to vote for National Super Alliance's (NASA) candidate in the August general election.Kingi told the residents that the Jubilee administration was to blame for the problems they have encountered in the last four years."We know the Jubilee government well and we understand their tactics to delay various initiatives so that we are unable to carry [out] development projects in time. When that happens, they will again tell the people that we are not working,” said Kingi, as quoted by the Nation. On his part, Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga called upon the county government of Kilifi to put in place important measures to curb drought in the region.
