Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has called upon the government not to sideline some counties when it comes to the distribution of Sh6 billion Equalisation Funds.
Speaking at Adu in Magarini during the ground-breaking ceremony of Kambicha-Marereni-Kanagoni water project, the governor faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto for frustrating different counties by 'unlawfully' allocating funds set aside for disadvantaged counties to stir development.
“Kilifi County was allocated Sh2 billion but surprisingly, the Jubilee government wants to use the funds to spearhead national government projects like tarmacking of Malindi-Sala Gate,” he said, as quoted by Nation.
Citing the Sh2.3 billion Magarini-Kilifi water project, the governor warned President Kenyatta against hijacking projects that his government did not fund during his tour tof the county.
“I initiated the project when I was still the area MP through the CDF Kitty after Malindi Waters and Sewerage Company lacked funds to carry out the feasibility study,” he said.
He further said that Kilifi residents are the ones who will pay back the loan and not the government.
This comes after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho accused the Jubilee administration of taking credit for projects that were initiated by past regimes.
