With barely four months remaining to the August polls, the subject of credibility of the academic credentials of most aspirants may handicap their quest for various elective seats.
The latest leader to weigh in on the matter is Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi who has called for the investigation of his opponents' academic qualifications.Kingi who was speaking at Ruruma ward in Rabai constituency on Friday claimed that some of his rivals have questionable academic papers, and urged Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to establish their credibility.The matter was set into motion by Rabai MP William Kamoti who said whereas the central government has of late been frustrating Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho amid claims of forging his KCSE certificates, others should not be spared.Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro is in the race to unseat Kingi with former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi also joining the battle that many political pundits consider a two-horse race pitting ODM and Jubilee candidates.However, the academic qualification of both Mung'aro and Kambi has been a matter of public debate with many claiming that the duo have no degrees to run for the governor position as required by the law.
