Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi was forced to intervene and participate in rescue mission after 65 people were marooned by flood waters Mbogolo/Gama, Kilifi County.
Led by the Red Cross Society, KDF and assistance from both the National and County Government, the affected were airlifted to safer grounds.
The Society continued with rescue missions in Lukole in Kilifi, Madogo and Mororo in the neighbouring Tana River County.
Five people trapped by floodwaters in Galana Kulalu were also rescued on Thursday.
Tana River County Kenya Red Cross Coordinator Jackson Bombe said over 6,0000 families had been displaced.
"We have disbursed nonfood items to 2,000 families in Madogo, 300 families in Garsen, 600 families in Galole but this is a drop in the ocean due to the magnitude of the disaster," Bombe told the press.
In Kilifi County, Magarini and Malindi Sub-counties are hard hit by the floods since over 3,000 people are still stranded and require urgent assistance to safer grounds.
Kenya Red Cross officials said the number of victims displaced could be more than 18,000 people if the situation will not change.
Crops have also been destroyed. Women and children are the worst affected.
