Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has maintained that he will contest for the nation’s top seat once he completes his second term in office. The outspoken Governor, however, said that he will consult his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho before taking a stab at the Presidency in 2022.The second time Governor has also maintained that he is fully committed towards the push for the secession of the Coast region. Together with Joho, Kingi has accused the Jubilee regime of failing to address the historical injustices that residents of the Coast region have suffered since independence. The duo has argued that the region has been sidelined by the past and current regimes when it comes to matters of development. The ODM governors have pledged to rally other leaders in their push for the region’s self-rule.The two have maintained that their push for the secession of the region will only stop if Raila Odinga, who contested for the Presidency for his fourth time in August, takes the oath of office as planned. However, speaking last week during the swearing-in of county executives, Kingi said he will shelve his State House bid should the Coast secession plan succeed.“I am fully for the secession battle and I will not stop this push because it means a lot for the generations to come,” said Kingi.“I had earlier on talked of ascending to the presidency after 2022. That vision is still there although, at the moment, I am pushing for self-rule and if this gives way, I will finally shelve my ambition for the presidency and come home to go for a Coast state leadership position,” said Kingi, as quoted by the Nation. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
