Flanked by Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, Siaya senator James Orengo, Suna East MP Junet Muhamed, Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire among other ODM leaders, Kingi presented himself before the anti-graft detectives at 11am, Monday.

He was grilled for over seven hours, with his supporters camping outside EACC offices, awaiting Kingi's exit from the Integrity Centre, which houses the agency's offices.

He came out late evening, accompanied by his lawyer, Senior Council senator Orengo, who addressed the press.

Orengo said Kingi had earlier notified EACC about the graft, and submitted all the necessary documentations that would help unearth persons behind the scam.

"So we were actually the ones asking the Commission to tell us what steps they have made in ensuring the money is recovered. The governor had notified the Commission everything immediately he heard about the scam, for legal action. It has been a month and the Commission is yet to respond. So we also wanted to know what EACC is doing to recover the stolen Sh51 million,'' Orengo told the press, outside EACC offices.

Kingi has so far suspended various suspects linked to the scam from their posts.

They include County Health Chief Officer Timothy Malingi; Treasury accountant Paul Mwanzo; Health accountant Jacob Konde; Finance accountan John Kalume; Water accountant Vivian Nzai and Education accountant Josephine Muramba, after they were implicated in the scam.

Other suspended officials include Dickson Tembo (Agriculture Clerical officer), Lenox Mwadzoya (Roads inspector); Johnson Nyamawi (Finance accountant) and Health Clerical officer Lilian Hariri.

The governor has since said Sh8 million has been recovered.
