Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to making the county food secure.
Speaking on Friday in Ganze shortly donating agricultural equipment, Kingi pledged to commission irrigation schemes through the county in a move aimed at reducing the level of dependency on relief food.
''My administration has made it its core mandate to ensure people of Ganze and Kilifi County at large do not live depending on relief food but are able to produce their own food and depend on themselves," he said.
"In addition to this, the County Government of Kilifi is expanding and setting up new irrigation schemes county wide to ensure we reduce our dependency on rain fed agriculture for farmers in Kilifi," he added.
The governor further distributed 700 bags of maize and 210 bags beans to help alleviate hunger in the region.
