Kilifi Governor Amason has assured residents in the county that the devolved unit was emerging from a five-decade dark period after being marginalised by successive regimes since independents.

With devolution in place, he said, Kilifi would strive to become independent.He spoke when he met opinion leaders from Mnarani, Vuma and Mavueni in Mnarani Ward on Sunday.Kingi has consistently said Kenya’s successive governments since independence marginalised Kilifi evidenced by high poverty levels.Under his leadership, he said, the county will prudently spend the money it receives from the national Treasury and local taxes to better lives of residents.“My administration is committed to continue providing quality services as outlined in my manifesto four years ago when I took office,” he said.“The fruits of devolution are a manifesto in realisation of who we are and how we are moving out of the underdevelopment and marginalisation for over five decades of denied quality services.”He said already, through devolution, Kilifi had witnessed an improvement in healthcare service delivery, increased household access to piped and portable water services, improved performance in the pre-primary education sector as well as in the vocational training centres.He said the county now has better road networks, while the farmers can now access subsidised farming inputs including tractor services for ploughing.“As a government we are committed to improve agricultural production by supplying farmers with quality, free certified seeds and fertilizers in every planting season,” the former cabinet minister said.
