We have seen a letter doing rounds on social media addressed to the Director of Public Prosecutions, directing him that I should not be cleared. I want to believe that it was propaganda. But if it is true the letter emanated from State House, then we have a problem as a country,” he said after being cleared by IEBC county returning officer Nelly Ilongo.Kingi is defending his seat against Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungaro (Jubilee) who was elected in 2013 on an ODM ticket but ditched the opposition for the ruling party. On Wednesday there were rumours that some senior government officials had ordered that Kingi should not be cleared to defend his seat.“Beginning today, we will have a series of meetings every day. We will make sure Kilifi is sealed and no other party will get our space. If you want to know that Kilifi is an ODM zone, go to the grassroots and see for yourself,” he said. The county chief is among Coast leaders expected to campaign for the opposition and ensure NASA leader Raila Odinga clinches victory in the region that overwhelmingly voted for him in 2013.He is a close ally of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, a fierce government critique.
