As the country was celebrating the 55th Madaraka Day, the celebrations were also held in various counties in the country.

In Kilifi county  the celebration were held at the Karisa Maitha grounds in Kilifi were the county Governor Amason Kingi was presiding  over the event as the guest speaker alongside the Kilifi county commissioner Magu Mtindika.

Speaking to the locals Governor Kingi congratulated the national leader’s president Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga for uniting the country through the handshake saying that it will eventually lead the country to a better place.

“I wish to welcome the idea of the two top leaders for coming together and prove to the nation that we are still one nation,” he said 

“The healing process and reconciliation to our people is long and has a positive impact we welcome it," he added.

According to Kingi the nation has been taken for a ride by some few leaders adding that some community feel isolated in their own country since independence hence a better Kenya shall be formed if only leaders show example of uniting all people without any discrimination.

However he reiterated his stand as a leader from the larger coastal region that he will continue fighting for unity and push for the implementation of the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission.

“I want to believe that the TJRC report will soon be revealed we want to see what it contains and we are ready to push for that, we want to ensure that justice prevails to Coastal people so that we can fill more unified and equal nation with shared prosperity,” he said.

 Kingi clarified his friendship with Governor Joho saying that they are still good friends and thus they will work to deliver to the residents.

Among the leaders who accompanied Kingi to attend the event was Kilifi county women rep Getrude Mbeyu and Kilifi North MP Owen Baya.
