Kilifi governor Amason Kingi has sent nine chief officers on terminal leave. The move comes one month before the officers complete their contracts. The second time governor only spared the CEO finance and economic planning Benjamin Kai.

The officers were expected to depart from office on January 22nd as indicated in a letter dated January 19, 2018, the officers are supposed to be out of their offices from Monday, January 22nd. 

Chuba Mohamed (ICT) Joseph Waema, Adan Mohamed (public service and disaster management), Andrew Makoti (environment), Kenneth Kazungu (roads), Samuel Kombe (Water) Patience Tsimba (trade), Emmanuel Katana (education)

According to Kilifi acting County Secretary Bibi Fondo the officers were sent home early in a bid to prepare them for the retirement. She also said that there is nothing sinister in the new development and urged residents to remain calm.

She further said that they can be called to work in the event of any duty of necessity. “We have not sacked them. We will be calling them for duties of necessity and other lighter duties,” Bibi said.

 Bibi also revealed that the contract of the retain CEO is expected to end in September 2018 that’s why he was not sent on leave.  The officers and other stakeholders have been questioning why they were sent home before the expiry of their contracts.
