In an event witnessed by UNICEF's Social Policy Specialist Yves Dublin, Kingi said the Mombasa county government of Mombasa had a duty to provide essential services to ensure the development and enhancement of human capital by creating an environment in which every individual can build capacities to sustain their own welfare and contribute to county and national growth.

"The establishment of such enablers require deliberate investment on social sectors that will cushion vulnerable populations from the effects of extreme poverty and from the impact of emergencies resulting from natural factors or any forms of conflict," said the DG.

He indicated that the Mombasa county had prioritised the social sector, prompting the development of a county social protection strategy to offer a framework for mitigating the rising poverty and vulnerabilities within the county.

The strategy will integrate and link all stakeholders working in the social sectors for effective and efficient service delivery and outline core social protection programmes to be implemented by the county for the next five years.

"The County government of Mombasa shall support the comprehensive implementation of this strategy as part of the larger process of growing the county's economy and urge all other actors and development partners in this field to align their social sector programming and funding to this strategy," Kingi said on Friday.
