As the 5th Devolution Conference officially kicked off on Tuesday, the Mombasa county stand was a host of activities.
In line with this year's theme of "Sustainable, Productive, Effective and Efficient Governments for Results Delivery" Mombasa team had the opportunity to showcase to the nation the county's successes since the inception of devolved systems.
Over the past few years, Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi said the County Government of Mombasa had made tangible improvements on the lives of the people through several flagship projects that have been executed in various sectors.
"We have made great investments in Health with Coast General Hospital now boosting of modern state of the art medical equipment. We have also constructed and fully equipped the Mwakirunge Hospital that shall make Health services readily available to our people in the reserves. We have also upgraded many access roads to cabro standards to facilitate easier movement of our people," he boasted.
Through the county inspectorate, Kingi indicated they have also been able to enforce major county policies and improved security.
Speaking after visiting the county's stand at the ongoing Devolution Conference in Kakamega, the DG said Mombasa county has also made tremendous investment on sports and other youth intervention programmes, by building several state of the art football stadia that will go along way in supporting the talents of youth.
"Through the youth fund we have also enhanced the capacity of our youth to start up and expand their enterprises."
"In education we have been able to and will be continuing to construct ECDE centers across all our wards. Through the county Elimu fund we have also been able to offer financial assistance to our students struggling with fee issues in several institutions of learning across the nation," he added.
Despite these successes, he lamented that the county government still struggles with the challenges of insufficient funding and delayed disbursement of funds from the national government.
"Our appeal is for the national government to improve the county allocations and to facilitate timely disbursements."
As the conference continues, he urged other counties to pass by the Mombasa County stand to borrow its best practices
