Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi will on Wednesday meet acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in a move the Education ministry says seeks to establish reasons for the poor education standards in the Coastal county.The Coast region is among regions that dismally performed during last year's KCPE and KCSE examinations.The region according to the Ministry has also seen few Form One students report to school for their 2018 first term.In Kwale and Kilifi counties, for instance, less than 1,500 Form Ones had by Monday reported to school out of the 5,568 available vacancies in the two counties schools.Kingi on Monday expressed concern over the low education standards in the county, saying the transition rate from Primary to Secondary school level was worrying.“I want students in Kilifi and the entire Coast region to have access to quality education. The learning environment in Coast is different compared to schools in other parts of the country,” said Kingi.“For instance, schools with more than 1,000 students have less than eight government teachers, forcing parents who are struggling financially to chip in to pay private teachers,” said Kingi.
