Kilifi governor Amason Kingi has alleged a scheme by the Jubilee administration to suppress voter turnout in perceived Opposition coalition NASA strongholds.

Speaking on Tuesday, the outspoken county chief cited the recent arrest of Kilifi County Secretary Bibi Fondo as a plot to intimidate NASA supporters.

“Fondo was arrested and taken to the DCI in Mombasa for [allegedly] funding the banned MRC. But when names of the youths she was accused of funding were released, it emerged they were ODM youths who have been campaigning strongly for NASA," he said during a press briefing.

"This is clear intimidation by the national government...we are worried about this trend," he added.

Kingi noted that this trend could scare away NASA supporters from campaigning for fear of getting arrested.

“Some NASA supporters who are not from the region are fleeing out of fear that they will not vote in Kilifi. This must be addressed immediately," he added.
