Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has criticised Jubilee leaders for allegedly using relief food to entice the electorate in drought affected areas to back their political ambitions ahead of the August general poll.
Speaking at his Kilifi backyard, Kingi said it is wrong for leaders affiliated to Jubilee Party to use such tricks to hide their poor performance instead of putting in place measures to address the drought. Kingi blasted Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro and his Ganze counterpart Peter Shehe for promising residents of Ganze relief food. This comes after Shehe called for a political meeting three weeks ago where he had promised to deliver 400 bags of maize, but failed to do so, the Star reports. The outspoken Governor asked the two leaders to tell the residents the truth instead of enticing and luring them using unacceptable ways. Kingi further asked the duo to stop making false promises in a bid to win the hearts of the people. “This is very wrong. If you want to hold a meeting, tell the people the truth. Do not lie to them that you will give them relief food and then you come empty handed,” Kingi said, as quoted by Star. Mung’aro, however, distanced himself from the allegations leveled against him by his current county boss saying that he never promised to donate relief food to anyone.
