Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi is upping his political game in the wake of a looming political showdown against his bitter rival Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro.
As a way to counter the latest tide in the race for the county seat, Kingi is crafting mechanisms that will guarantee him a win the August polls - his choice of running mate.
Having relied on his running mate Kenneth Kamto who hails from Rabai to deliver him victory in 2013, Kingi is set to name his deputy from either the Rabai, Ribe or Kambe communities.
With Kamto having crossed to the Mung'aro camp where he will be his running mate, Kingi's choice of a deputy from Kamto's base is meant to eat into his support and reduce the numbers which would go to Mung'aro.
Sources indicate that Kingi has settled on his County Executive for Tourism Gideon Saburi as his number two.
Reports further indicate that George Mazuri and Issa Makenzi had also been interviewed for the position before Saburi was picked as the best among the three.
Already enjoying the advantage of incumbency and closeness to the ODM and NASA Presidential candidate leader Raila Odinga, Kingi is enjoying a precious head-start in the race for the county top seat.
