As the world marked the International Women's Day on March 8, Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi joined the women of Mombasa in commemorating the day at Likoni.

Accompanied by Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, he reiterated the county's commitment to addressing the plight of women in Mombasa.

"The county government of Mombasa shall continue availing equal opportunities for women and create more incentives geared towards empowering our women," he said.

Kingi indicated rhe county government in partnership with other stakeholders had established a gender-based violence victims centre that would go along way in addressing issues of violence against women.

"These interventions are also well articulated in our social protection strategy."

"We also appreciate the special role women play in the socio economic development of our county. As mothers they have the responsibility of bringing up our children into responsible adults, right from nursery school to advanced levels they are the first enforcers of discipline and we shall grant them the necessary support as they take their place in the fight against illiteracy, poverty and insecurity," added the DG.

He affirmed that the county government of Mombasa would continue supporting the established women intervention programmes within the county and beyond.
