Speaking on Tuesday at Kinoo along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway the frustrated youth urged the government to revive the once vibrant sector.

Kevin Mburu 21, a business person specialising in African carvings says the industry is performing poorly .

“We hardly sell anything nowadays. The number of tourists visiting has gone down. Life is becoming unbearable,” said Mburu.

Kenya tourism sector has been affected by recent terror attacks and  travel advisories by western counties in most parts especially at the Coast.

Juliah Maina says that she is worried a lot .

“ I took a loan of Sh200,000 from a bank to start a curio shop but the business is yet to pick up,” said Maina .

The worried youth urged the government to increase security operations in the worst affected areas to regain the lost confidence by both foreign and local tourists.

“Building confidence among tourists will see the sector flourishing again and the business will shine,” added Maina .

The youth argue that the depressing tourism sector would lock out many youths.

“Tourism sector created job opportunities to youth but the deteriorating security in the country may affect the gains attained in the sector,” notes Maina.

The youth urged the government to step up its effort in international market to woo tourists.

The youth however say that politics should not be dragged in the efforts of reviving the ailing sector.
