Dairy farmers in Kinungi area of Naivasha Sub-County have raised concerns over the fall in the price of milk.
Speaking on Thursday to farmers at Kinungi Trading Centre, Kinungi Dairy Farmers Association chairman, Benson Mwangi said that the price of milk has been steadily dropping in the past one month.
Mwangi said several farmers usually sell their milk to a local milk processing plant that was buying the milk at Sh30 per litre. However, but in the past one month the price has reduced to Sh26.
This he says is a significant reduction in net earnings for the farmers who have heavily invested in the business.
"The price of milk has significantly dropped. Farmers have been selling their milk to Daima dairies at Sh30 per litre and now it has dropped to Sh26; a difference of Sh4," he said.
Mwangi wondered why the price was falling and yet, according to him, the amount of milk being produced was reducing.
